This upscale neighborhood is set in the Grossbasel part of the city, with the French border to the north and the Rhine to the east. St. Johann is the setting for the pharmaceutical giant Novartis's corporate headquarters, a sprawling campus. A variety of cafes, bars, and restaurants nearby are perfect for a quick bite or a lengthy business lunch. St. Johanns-Tor, one of the three remaining medieval gates into Basel, is an important historic landmark located on the southern border of the neighborhood. There's also the Rheinpromenade Basel, a lovely riverside hiking path. Basel St. Johann train station is located in the center of St. Johann, and lets you travel throughout Switzerland and beyond. It's also easy to get around the neighborhood and the rest of Basel by bus and tram.
